Training Students Co-op Program

In the summer of 2006, Foothills Connect sent three Rutherford County Marketing and Entrepreneur teachers to the NC Real class in Raleigh.   These teachers , Susan Flynn, Sonja Smith and Sarah Morrow participated in an intensive course on creating and supporting Entrepreneurs.

Upon their return, the Student Co-Op program commenced in January of 2007.   Coordinated by Ms. Robin Davis, the teachers selected their top marketing students to participate in an exciting Co-Op program.   The students are taught the basics of website layout and design by their Co-Op instructor, Ms. Dana Whitmire.  As practice, the students then review the website links established by the approximately 600 Rutherford County businesses that have registered themselves in the www.rutherfordinfo.com website that is maintain for Leadership Rutherford by Foothills Connect.   Websites with broken links or inadequate contents will be brought to the attention of the business owners.   The students, under the supervision of Ms. Whitmire, will correct the deficiencies.

Upon their graduation from the Co-Op program, Foothills staff will attempt to place them within companies needed trained, technology oriented students.   Then another group of students will be brought into the program.

In this way, the Rutherford County Schools system  and Foothills Connect will develop a cadre of Internet savvy, knowledge workers that will assist Rutherford County businesses to take advantage of the fiber optic connectivity that will be soon arriving in the County.   These will be the students that connect Rutherford County to the global e-economy.
